Can Anyone Become a Lip Balm Addict?

If you have that tiny stick of lip balm with you for like every second of the time you are out- with friends, at school, college or office, and you can't help but scrap it out from your bag and put it on, then yes, you are an addict. Your friends are annoyed at this habit and repeatedly tell you to slash it off. But you, you can't help it. Because quite apparently, you are an addict.
You might wonder what's wrong being using a lip balm in abysmal measures. If rumours are anything to go by, lip balms contain cancer causing agents. Sounds frivolous? Only if rumours were true, well, they wouldn't be called rumours then!
The worst side effect of using a lip balm is that, at times, it increases lip chapping. Of course, making a product work has a very smart story of its ingredients and how they are fused to make them a lucrative product in the market. Lip balms are manufactured in a way, and with a concoction of ingredients that will ultimately prolong the chapping effects. The reason is pretty evident.

Some balms cause a tingling sensation. Such balms are often packed with harmful ingredients like phenol, methanol and salicylic acid. Avoid using such products as the tingling sensation is actually the protective veil of dead skin on your lips.
Irritation and a weird, tingling sensation are quite often frequented by lip balms' excessive use. Avoid using lip balms with an added scent or flavour to put irritation at bay. Opting for natural flavours like chocolate or strawberry does a better job than other artificial flavours which are surprisingly a rage in the market these days.
Whether the addiction is Psychological or physical, well, that's still a mystery. While some might thrust the blame of the purported addiction on the ingredients, some might just say that it has become an unconscious habit, almost like biting your fingernails or drumming your fingers. It turns out that digging out the minute stick every other hour from your bag and applying it to your chapped lips is a big turn off for people around. Unlike body lotion that doesn't engender any habit of the sort, lip balms can be annoying, both for your lips and for the people around who are tired of seeing you apply it every effing hour. The addiction is queer, but rest assured, it doesn't cause cancer!
