“How to get volume in my hair?” is one of the beauty questions I’ve asked for a long, long time. And I’ve been doing it all wrong until a few years ago.
As someone with very naturally flat and fine hair (plus, there’s not a lot of it), I took the same old advice you always hear about: “Want thicker hair? Just cut in some layers!” Well, not so fast. Because in my experience, layers do not work, so I’ve been trying pretty much everything about getting volume in your hair. I can honestly say this article has been at least 10 years in the making! Here are all my tricks in thick, full hair.
10 Ways to Get More Hair Volume
1- Tease at the root
Mockery can be an old school tactic, but it is still a go-a method for hairstylists because it really works. For the first time teasers, here's how it works: Collect the hair on the crown of the head and Backcomb two to three inches sections of the roots. Then brush with fingertips to soften the appearance.
2- Root Lifting Dpray
Add a root lift spray, such as L'Oreal EverStyle volume alcohol-free volume lifting spray (Between $7- 10 Dollars), to your roots and just above your ears. Brush through with fingertips to add oomph and texture. Bonus: Because it is alcohol-free, this formula does not weigh the hair down or dries!
3- Dry Hair Upside Down
4- Switch your part
This is really the easiest trick of all-just change which side you part your hair for an immediate lift. To ensure a deep part, take a comb and draw a line from the eyebrow, moving diagonally back to the center of the crown. Voila, instant volume!
Adding layers to long or short hair adds volume without any daily maintenance. If you have fine hair, ask for soft layers on your chin. For medium to coarse hair, order chopped layers through.
6- At Home Blowout
Professional tip: When drying your hair, wrap a round brush around the roots of your hair to keep the roots raised. No product needed!
7- Yes, Scrunch his hair
To get the movement at the ends and the volume at the root, apply a salt spray from the sea to the dried hair to the towel, then scrunch with the fingertips and allow to air-dry. Our favorite spray on the market is bumble and Bumble surf Spray ( $27, 30$ ) it's perfect for fine and hard hair all day long.
No time in the morning? Twist the hair on a bun (or many) before hitting the sack. Simply take your hair moist, towel-dried, separate into large or small sections, then rotate and secure with dowels. Always avoid the elastics to avoid hard marks on the threads.
For the instantaneous volume that can be settled in an instant, opt for temporary extensions, like She by SO.CAP.USA Clip-In Hair Extensions . The pieces stick like a hair clip and are so easy to remove. For a strong grip, part of your hair where you want extra volume, tease, add hairspray, and clip in.
