THE STAR: Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine premiere, Los Angeles, July 24
THE LOOK: Dramatic with a side part
THE GOAL: “It was about the dress,” says Robert Vetica of Robert Vetica Salon at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. He wanted sleek, modern hair to complement Blanchett’s minimal ivory-and-black Alexander McQueen gown.
THE TECHNIQUE: Vetica blew out Blanchett’s thick, slightly wavy hair to straighten it. He parted it deeply on the left and tucked the hair behind her ear. On the other side he used a soft-hold styling gel (we suggest Philip B styling gel, PHILIP B by Philip B STYLING GEL 6 OZ) to slick a two-inch section behind the left ear and under the hair in the back. “That creates this cool, modern effect, almost as if the left side of her head is shaved,” he says.
To finish, Vetica applied styling cream (we suggest T3 360 Boost Heat-Seeking Iron Booster) to the ends of the hair. He used a flat iron (we suggest Theorie Saga Collection Touch flat iron) on the back to tame any frizzies and add shine, and to slightly curve the ends.
THE SECRET: If you need extra length, or if your hair is very fine and could use more volume, you can add temporary extensions.
